Blake from Kirchner Electric came right out to troubleshoot my generator. 5 minutes of investigating found a battery with low voltage. 1/2 hour later we were back in business. I highly recommend Kirchner Electric for all your electrical and generators needs.

Your Local Generator Installer in Cypress, TX

Backup Power for When the Grid Can’t Keep Up

Every Gulf Coast summer brings the same two problems: brutal heat and a power grid that struggles to keep up with it. Add hurricane season on top, and an outage in the Cypress area can stretch from a few uncomfortable hours into several days without air conditioning, refrigeration, or a working home office. A standby generator takes that worry off the table and keeps your home or business running while the neighborhood waits for the lights to come back.

Kirchner Electric is a family-owned electrical contractor based on Grant Road in Cypress, and generator installation has become one of the services homeowners and businesses call us about most. We install whole-home and commercial standby generators across the Northwest Houston area, size the right unit for your property, handle the electrical connection and the automatic transfer switch, and make sure the whole system meets code. If a generator you already own stops working the way it should, we can diagnose and repair it too.

One thing we are straight about from the start: we handle installs and repairs, not monthly maintenance contracts. If your unit needs attention, call us and we will take care of it. You will not be signed up for a recurring plan you never asked for.

Don’t Wait for the Next Outage to Get Backup Power. Kirchner Electric can help you choose the right standby generator and handle the complete installation from start to finish.

Whole-Home Generator Installation

Keep the Whole House Running

A whole-home standby generator sits permanently outside your house, wired directly into your electrical system through an automatic transfer switch. When utility power drops, it starts on its own, usually within seconds, and keeps running until the power comes back. You do not have to drag anything out of the garage, run extension cords across the yard, or refuel a portable unit in the middle of a storm.

The key to a whole-home system that actually does its job is sizing. Too small and it cannot carry your air conditioning, well pump, and kitchen at the same time. Oversized and you have paid for capacity you will never use. We walk your property, look at your panel and how your household really uses electricity, and recommend a unit that fits. From there we handle the pad, the electrical connection, the transfer switch, and the permitting and inspection, so the finished system is safe, code-compliant, and ready the next time the lights flicker.

Commercial Generator Installation

Keep Your Business Open During an Outage

For a business, an outage is not just an inconvenience. It can mean spoiled inventory, idle staff, lost sales, and in some cases a safety or compliance problem. A commercial standby generator keeps your critical systems online so you can stay open, or at least protect what matters most, while the grid is down.

We install commercial generators for offices, retail spaces, restaurants, medical and professional buildings, and property managers across the Houston area. Commercial work often involves larger loads and three-phase power, so we coordinate generator sizing with your electrical service, your critical circuits, and your general contractor when a build is involved. Whether you need to protect a single walk-in cooler or keep an entire facility operating, the goal is the same: when the grid goes down, the parts of your operation that cannot stop, don’t.

The Generator Brands We Install

Trusted Equipment, Properly Installed

A generator is only as good as the installation behind it, but the equipment still matters. We install the brands that have earned their reputation for reliability in this climate.

Not sure which brand or size is right for you? That is exactly the conversation we are happy to have. We will give you an honest recommendation based on your property and your budget, not a sales pitch for whatever we happen to have on the truck.

Generator Brands

  • Generac. One of the most widely installed home standby brands in the country, Generac makes a broad range of air-cooled and liquid-cooled units that cover everything from a modest home to a large property. Its popularity also means parts and support are easy to come by when you need them.

  • Kohler. Known for well-built residential and commercial standby units, Kohler is a strong choice when you want durability and quieter operation. Its commercial-grade options are a good fit for businesses with heavier or more sensitive loads.

  • Briggs & Stratton. A long-standing name in power equipment, Briggs & Stratton offers dependable standby generators that deliver solid backup power at a competitive value for many homes.

Generator Repair

When Your Backup Power Isn’t Working Right

A generator is only worth having if it starts when you need it. If yours is throwing error codes, failing its self-test, running rough, or simply not kicking on during an outage, our licensed electricians can track down the problem and get it working again.

To be clear about how we work: we repair generators, but we do not sell monthly maintenance or service plans. If something is wrong, reach out and we will diagnose it and fix it. Plenty of our generator customers first called us for exactly that reason, a unit that would not start, and stayed with us for the rest of their electrical needs.

Whole-Home Battery Backup and Energy Storage

EG4 GridBOSS, FlexBOSS21, and WallMount Battery Installation

Not every backup system runs on fuel. Some of the best ones we install now are built around batteries. There is no engine to start, nothing to refuel mid-storm, and no noise in the side yard at two in the morning.

Kirchner Electric installs complete EG4 energy storage systems: the GridBOSS microgrid interconnect device, the FlexBOSS21 hybrid inverter, and EG4 WallMount batteries. Installed together, they carry your home through an outage, decide which circuits stay live, and let you see and control the whole system from your phone.

When utility power drops, the system takes over and keeps your house running. The FlexBOSS21 delivers 12kW of continuous power from batteries alone and 16kW when solar is part of the system, with enough starting current to bring a five-ton air conditioner online. In a Houston August, that is the spec that matters.

WallMount batteries are modular, so the system can start at what you need now and grow later. If you want more runtime after living with it through a storm season, we add capacity instead of replacing the system.

The GridBOSS is the single point where your utility service, inverter, batteries, smart loads, and a standby generator all meet. It carries a 200-amp service entrance rating and supports 200 amps on both backed-up and non-backed-up loads, accepts up to three 90-amp hybrid inverters and a generator input up to 125 amps, and gives you four configurable ports for AC coupling or load management rated 125, 80, 60, and 60 amps. It monitors eight circuits, so you can see where your power is actually coming from and control it remotely.

If you already have a standby generator, or you are planning one, the GridBOSS brings it into the same system instead of leaving it as a separate island running on its own transfer switch. Solar, battery, generator, and utility all coordinate through one device.

Smart port, inverter, and generator breakers are specified separately depending on how the system is configured. We sort that out during the on-site visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on how much of your home or business you want to keep running during an outage and on your specific electrical loads. That is why we start with an on-site look at your panel and your power needs rather than guessing. We will recommend a unit that carries what matters to you without paying for capacity you will not use.

We install Generac, Kohler, and Briggs & Stratton. Each is a proven brand, and we will help you choose the one that fits your property and your budget.

Yes. The GridBOSS is a microgrid interconnect device that ties your utility service, hybrid inverters, batteries, smart loads, and standby generator into one coordinated system. We install it for whole-home and partial-home backup setups, including bringing an existing or new standby generator into a system built around solar and battery storage.

Every installation is different because it depends on the size of the unit and the specifics of your property, so we provide a quote after an on-site assessment. There is a $250 fee for the on-site visit, and if you move forward with Kirchner Electric, we credit that $250 back to you when your project starts.
